“Education empowers, enables, and ultimately transforms lives.” These words come to life when we reflect on the inspiring journey of Jainab, who is now working as a cake maker at Poornatva Organic Café & Bakery.
Jainab first came to the Prayas Center in 2009. Back then, she was a quiet and withdrawn child, often wearing a sullen expression. She was moody, angry, and unhygienic, carrying the weight of her circumstances. However, her time at Prayas marked a turning point, making her one of the most transformed children at the center.
Recalling her early experiences, Jainab says:
“When Sirji and the Didis at Prayas first took five of us for an entrance exam at a reputed school in Noida, we cried out of nervousness and fear. We had never been exposed to the world outside our jhuggi. But they supported us in every way—teaching us, paying for school fees and transportation, and encouraging us to participate in Independence Day and Republic Day events. They cared for me like their own daughter, and that changed my life. Now, when I work with my colleagues, I no longer feel inferior to anyone.”
Jainab not only excelled academically but also overcame her behavioral challenges. Over time, she has grown in confidence and now wears a warm and frequent smile. She dreams of moving her family out of their jhuggi and into a healthier and more respectable life.

Despite her family’s significant financial, social, and health challenges, Jainab remains a beacon of hope—not just for her family but for many others. Her education has become her greatest strength, and she carries the burden of these expectations with grace and determination.
Jainab’s journey is a testament to the power of education and the transformative impact of care and support. She dares to dream big and inspires others to do the same.
